Inside Columbia – Derby Dames Throw Down

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting and photographing the Derby Dames of Columbia, MO. Of course, I had no idea what to expect when assigned this story. These women are tatted up, have odd colored hair, and are fiercely aggressive skaters. They’re also some of the nicest and most interesting people I know. The Dames each have a colorful and unique past, but they’re all connected by their passion for roller derby. Ham Slamwich regained confidence after a divorce and appreciates the support of her teammates. Sixty-one-year-old Gram Smacker does it to stay young. Cyclopes, 19, was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, ocular cancer on the retina. when she was nine months old. After chemo and laser surgery, she lost sight in one of her eyes. She’s learning life lessons and looks forward to becoming a coach. Meet more of the team and see the full story at Inside Columbia.

Dayglow Time Lapse

Just in case you missed the show…

Paint, Music, and a Whole lot of Bright Colors. Dayglow.

Dayglow, called “the World’s largest paint party,” rolled through Columbia last week. It seemed as though the whole town showed up to get splattered, and I had a front row seat. Four hundred gallons of paint, confetti cannons, and a high tech lighting system caused some complications, but I survived. Thanks for taking a peak.
